Maggie Moore is leaving small-town south Georgia behind to embrace adulthood on her own in big-city Atlanta.
Finding inspiration in the unique people she’s met covering obscure sporting events, Maggie decides it’s time to fill her life with adventure – just as soon as she figures out how to cut ties with good ol’ Murphy, and his pesky laws, once and for all.
Naturally, the universe has different plans.
Before she even sets out to cover her next big story, Maggie is bombarded with old wounds and new insecurities, forcing her to choose between the reality in front of her and the promise of a dream just out of reach.
Channeling the hard-fought lessons of her Dad, Maggie struggles against the seemingly insurmountable force that is her troublesome partner, learning the hard way that things are never as easy as you think they’ll be.
Excerpt
“Maggie.” John’s jaw ticked.
“Fine, I don’t know. That’s what is happening with him. For now, we’re friends. He is the kind of guy I should want to be with. He’s optimistic like me, he fights for a better life, and he sees the good even when there is hardly any there. He’s not hard on the eyes, either.” Admitting feelings for another man to John felt wrong, namely since I still had some unresolved feelings regarding him.
“Should want to be with?” John’s voice dropped a register, curling my toes around the bar at the bottom of the stool.
“Yes, ideally I would like to be with someone that makes me feel good about myself, and helps me see the good in others.” Not someone that constantly makes me question everything I say or do, I added silently.
“As opposed to?” John leaned forward, the stool useless as a prop for him as he crowded into my space.
“As opposed to nothing,” I squeaked, slamming my computer closed and hopping off of the stool like the coward I was. “When I think of my ideal person, it is someone that compliments me. That’s all.”
